EchoStar
EchoStar is engaged in promoting MHEG-5 worldwide through the proliferation of its MHEG stack. As a major player in the provision of technology and services to operators, EchoStar supports the use of MHEG as a highly flexible, open standard interactive layer. EchoStar finds MHEG is particularly suited to installations that are cost-constrained, either due to the retail pressures in a horizontal market, or for the growing needs of operators in emerging markets.
EchoStar has a flexible, customer-friendly approach, offering its tried and tested solutions or third party integrations alongside MHEG in numerous satellite, cable, and terrestrial applications. EchoStar's software solutions are scaleable and have been utilised in products from plasma TV's down to converter set-top boxes.
MHEG-5 is one of the core technologies embedded in all our TV sets sold in the European region. Our motivation for supporting IMPALA is to see the expansion of broadcast support for MHEG-5 in Europe and beyond. The UK market has proven MHEG stability of operation, and suitability for not only digital teletext delivery, but also for multi-screen video selection of hidden services. Its efficiency in launch speed also makes it ideally placed as an instant display at channel zapping for broadcaster controlled splash-screen, as used for radio screensavers, and non-running service captions.
